1. I think fondly of a friend who died many years ago from cancer. She lived in Menlo Park CA. We were colleagues at work but became friends. I would send her books on tape when she could no longer concentrate on reading.
2. I went to her house for lunch within a couple/few months of her death. She made grilled cheese and tomato sammies. She put the slightest schmear of mayo on the sammie. Ever since that day, I have done the same. It adds a wonderful, little je ne sais quoi.
3. We ate out in her garden. It was a lovely summer day. She lived in a micro-climate that had lovely summer days.
4. Her Memorial Service was held when a great number of her colleagues were in town from all over the world for meetings. Even though we were “work friends,” the bond was real. It was strong. Thinking about her right now… I think she’s been gone maybe 10 or 12 years.
5. I miss you Caroline!

Trying Not to Wish My Life Away on Wednesday

1. Work rushes along. It is providing way to many opportunities to use witty sayings. In the past two days I’ve describe a difficult task as being “like trying to mail Jello-O to a tree” and described a busy colleague as being as busy “as a one-armed paper hanger” (folks had not heard that one?!?) and finally, today, I described an audit I’d provided of a constantly changing database as a “snapshot of the charging gazelle.” Sometimes, this is as creative/colourful as I can be in my job.
2. Potentially severe wether headed this way overnight and thru tomorrow. Yikes, here we go again. Nothing like what other parts of the country have faced but bad weather is bad wether – I hope the sun stays away and the temps stay low so the threat diminishes.
3. It’s official, I’m going to Churchill again, this time to see the polar bears! Three folks from church are coming too! How cool!
4. Starting a list of camera equipment I’ll rent for the trip! I really don’t need to own a 150-300 (effective 300-600) and if I get a 2x, 600-1200! I’ll rent for the trip for sure! I think I’ll buy the 17mm or 25mm. I need one of those!
5. Nice din with D tonight. Awesome Indian food, fun to spend time. Life’s been crazy busy so haven’t done din in a couple of months.

Extra – the Bruins are in the Stanley Cup Finals?!?!!!!!!! Cool.

1. Tornado touched down in MD and tornado warnings as late as 9:30PM. Welcome Summer.
2. I chipped a tooth of Thursday, went to the dentist today – back in business! Oh yeah, front tooth, that was not fun at all but in grand scheme of things, nothing to worry about. Perspective. Ya, I get/got it.
3. Work continues to be crazy busy. Good but would like a little slow down, just a little one.
4. I really love the AT&T ads with the guy talking to the children!
5. June is the month of doctor apps. Maybe next year I’ll not book them all in one month!
